This is the “Corporate” bike. I bought this 87 430 CR for a parts bike for an 87 XC. Once I got the bike home and started looking it over, it was basically 100% complete but in pretty bad shape. Because it was complete I decided to build it and find parts for the XC later. The bike came from southern Ohio from a guy named Woody. Here are some of the pics posted from the for sale ad:

I stripped the bike down to the frame and sent it out for powder coating.

While the frame was out getting powder coated, I disassembled the WP 4054 forks and started getting them cleaned up. I placed a call to Jeff at Slavens and had him order the correct springs for my weight. I also ordered a new Ohlins spring and when it came in I mailed it and the shock to Drew Smith at Works Enduro Rider.

One of my other 87’s has the traditional Husqvarna forks on it and I had heard alot of good things about these WP forks. So the clean up began.

The tubes were actually in really great shape. This bike had been stored indoors for a very long time. The inside and outer forks were scrubbed with parts washer fluid. Then lightly scuffed with red scotchbright. A fairly close shade of grey was sprayed on the outside and new fork tube seals installed. Once the springs showed up, the forks were assembled and filled with the correct amount of Bel-Ray 10w fork oil.

The wheels were is pretty bad shape as the Nordiscs were bent and cracked. So I contacted Bob at RTR wheel lacing and he was to address the wheels for me.

While I was doing all of this I sent the engine to my friend Larry Stahl up in Georgia. The engine was in pretty bad shape. The previous owner had tried to remove the flywheel and didn’t know the threads were left hand. So, the crank end was snapped off. Then once the case was split Larry discovered the cases were cracked between the trans bearings. After buying many, many, many, cases we finally located a good case half. A few NOS gears were located for the transmission, an NOS first over piston, and a new rod kit, new bearings and Larry had it ready to rock.

I was able to repair the factory radiator plastics. Also, I had a 2018 Husqvarna FE 450 and opted for a different tail light assembly so I used my stock 2018 LED tail light and tag light in the rear fender.

I knew I was not going for a correct restoration. I wanted to make this bike my own. So I designed some custom graphics to place on the bike. I also changed the colors to red, white, and black. Once the recovered seat was placed on, it was obvious the blue seat had to go. I had a friend make a custom seat cover and it made ALL the difference. People ask me all the time at first glance what kind of bike it is.

Also, this bike had so much compression it was extremely hard to kick over. So I added a compression relief valve. This particular one is made for Harleys. I figured if it can live and one of those engines, it can live on a dirt bike.

This 1987 Husqvarna 430 CR has been restored to factory condition.

It is also available for sale currently.

This bike was bought out of Tennessee.  The previous owner was attempting to restore it but had lost interest due to lack of time and difficulty locating parts. They had the frame sand blasted and painted and the was the extent of their effort.

Once back to the shop, the WP forks were serviced, the clamps were installed with fresh bearings, the engine was blown up and not usable so an 89 WR 430 with a six speed trans was rebuild with all new bearings, seals, rod, 1st over Wiseco 2 ring piston, new Vintco Carbon Fiber reed valves, new Speed Wolf Billet Intake, new clutches and frictions shifted by an NOS shift lever, stainless case bolts, and the cases cleaned and painted. The original Motoplat ignition works as it should. The Mikuni carb has been rebuilt, original radiators have been cleaned & painted an optional set of Up-Tite Radiator guards installed with new silicon coolant hoses. The original expansion pipe has been bead blasted and painted with high temp semi gloss engine paint. The original silencer was cleaned, painted, and re-packed.

The swing arm pivot ends were replaced with Speed Wolf pivot sleeves, new bearings and inserts. The rear shock was sent to Drew Smith at Works Enduro Rider and was rebuilt with Ohlins parts. Wheel hubs have been sand blasted & painted  and wrapped in new Excel Takasago Gold rims, Buchanan stainless spokes, new rim locks, tires, and tubes. The front caliper and master cylinder have been chemically stripped and powder coated then rebuild with Brembo components including brake lever. A new hydraulic brake hose has also been fitted. The clutch lever and perch are new Magura parts.

The front fender, rear fender, and mud guard are new. All other plactics-radiator panels-air box/lid- side panels-number plate-and fuel tank are original to this bike. Decals are also new. The fuel tank has a new petcock and o-ring.

The seat cover has also been replaced along with the forward chain rollers, bearings, and wear pad, the rear chain rollers and wear pads, new gold x-ring chain, new swing arm pivot bolt and lock nuts, new front and rear brake frictions have also been installed.

Additionally, the forks stops, sub-frame ands, all cables, engine stop switch, every bearing, gasket, seal, nut and bolt are all new. This is virtually a brand new 1987 430 CR with a 6 Speed transmission.

As of this moment the bike has 1 heat cycle on it with approx 15 min of easy ride time to confirm trans shifts as it should, brakes function, and rides well.
